Students have a right to attend school in a safe, purpose-built building. Our interim school in borrowed buildings built on a shoestring budget are inadequate and the district authorities rightly refused to grant us necessary accreditation. In fact, we have been threatened with shutdown. So we have embarked on a this permanent, fully permitted, code-compliant building on its own piece of land. It's beyond our means, but with help from supporters we will one day get this up and running.
This new school building is the biggest project to date by far. Construction is well under way, but we still need to raise a large amount of money to complete the project. This is our most urgent need. If you would like to donate to this project, mark your donation 'Building Project'. |
After a protracted period, we finally received approval for building in the spring of 2019. Construction began well, but the contractor gradually ran out of steam and progress slowed down to neaqr standstill. By October 2019, we realized that the only chance of reaching our goal of opening in January 2020 was to dismiss the contractor and self-manage the construction. We started buying our materials piecemeal and managing the laborforce directly. Although progress is picking up, there have been lessons to learn along the way. We have reteained the services of an expert to liase with district authorities and keep us safe, efficient and code-compliant.
